PixelPainters started because we've been where you are.
Founder Josh Starr grew up a pastor's kid, married his high‑school sweetheart (also a pastor's kid), and spent his early career building digital experiences for major brands, including work that helped build the e‑commerce side of Walmart.com.
But ministry kept calling. Josh and his family moved to Kentucky to serve with a local church, and later helped found Scarlet Hope, a nonprofit ministry serving women leaving the adult entertainment industry. Over time, that work expanded nationally with offices in multiple cities.
Along the way, Josh built a web and design agency (Solid Giant) and had the privilege of serving organizations and ministries across the country. After years of serving churches, and serving as a communications director in a large church environment, one thing became painfully obvious:
Most churches would benefit from excellent design, but can't justify hiring a full‑time designer.
So in 2018, PixelPainters was born: a simple subscription that gives churches reliable design support without the cost and complexity of building an in‑house department.
We intentionally focus on churches, ministries, and mission‑driven organizations because we believe in what you're building.
